Could Going Out-of-Network Really Save You Money?
By Laura Smrecek, RDH @ Gentle Family Dentistry
The economy is on everyone’s mind these days. Saving money is becoming more of an art than ever. One way people are saving money is to choose health care providers that are “in network”. After all, that’s a no-brainer, right? One looks at the list of options for providers, and calls and makes an appointment with the idea that this will end up costing less than choosing a provider that is “out of network”. Why would anyone want to choose to go “out of network”? (Is it possible that going “out of network” could cost less after all?)...........

The Link Between Gum Disease & Heart Attacks
By Melinda Winter, RDH @ Gentle Family Dentistry
There is now scientific proof that suggests there is a link between gum disease and other health issues; something we hygienists have always known. As a result you’re always taxing your body.” This infection from toxins.......

Independent Evidence Proves That A Beautiful Smile
Is A Great Investment
Cosmetic dentistry is often viewed as a luxury by patients because most dental insurance companies view cosmetic treatment as elective services. As a result, patients more readily accept services that are covered by the insurance because these services are viewed as “necessary.” I would venture to guess that each of us has a different view of what is necessary to live the best life. With today’s negative news on the economy, ..................

Are You Flossing Correctly?
By Nancy Graham, RDH @ Gentle Family Dentistry
Flossing is an essential part of oral hygiene. It removes plaque and food between teeth where a toothbrush alone cannot reach. Plaque is a sticky white film that collects on your teeth. It contains harmful bacteria that are a major cause of tooth decay and periodontal disease. It is recommended that flossing be performed once each day.

Updated Preventative Antibiotic Recommendations
by Sheri Prohaska, RDH at Gentle Family Dentistry
The American Heart Association recently updated their guidelines for pre-medication requirements prior to a dental visit. Previously, pre-medication was thought to be the best way to prevent Infective Endocarditis. Research has now shown that........
