The economy is on everyone’s mind these days. Saving money is becoming more of an art than ever. One way people are saving money is to choose health care providers that are “in network”. After all, that’s a no-brainer, right? One looks at the list of options for providers, and calls and makes an appointment with the idea that this will end up costing less than choosing a provider that is “out of network”. Why would anyone want to choose to go “out of network”? (Is it possible that going “out of network” could cost less after all?)...........

There is now scientific proof that suggests there is a link between gum disease and other health issues; something we hygienists have always known. When I see a patient with red, spongy, bleeding gums and find out that they’ve had a heart attack, I’m not surprised. I like to explain to my patients the following: “When you have an infection in any part of your body, including your mouth, your immune system has to work harder.
