A Christmas Message from Dr. Fox – The Silver Platter
What comes to mind when you think about a silver platter? A beautiful serving tray, lustrous and reflective, reserved for special occasions, an item passed down through generations or given to commemorate a special event or person?
With the holidays fast approaching, special dinners and events, silver, china, and crystal come to mind for me. I am fortunate to have been given a few silver platters as gifts from a dear aunt and godmother that I enjoy using. As we approach the end of another year, I am reminded of some of the days of the past year; some joyous, some difficult, but each given to us as part of our lives. Each day is a time to enjoy and learn more about ourselves and an opportunity to serve one another.
Each day we are given a fresh start by our Creator. We are given this new day presented “on a silver platter”. It is our choice how we use it. Do we ignore it, set it on the shelf for another time, or do we cherish it and use it to serve others with a smile and a right attitude? Do we choose to share its beauty and its purpose of serving with someone who needs a good friend, who listens with compassion, and serves forgiveness and grace? Perhaps we use it to lighten someone’s burdens by putting their needs first. Certainly, we are given each day as a gift and it is out choice how we use it.
As to the luster and reflective nature of the platter, what do we see when we look into it? (and what do others see?) Do we see a contented, peaceful image, a likeness to the One who gifted us; or a tried, angry image? We should be reminded of the reflection the world sees of us, as we may only have that moment in time to share with someone placed in our path.
As you may know, silver does tarnish and needs polishing to keep its luster. Our days can get tarnished too if we get bogged down by a bad attitude or let the worries and cares of life take center stage in our heads. When we step back with wisdom and do the best job we can for each situation, we can go forward knowing that we are gifted another fresh day the next morning with new opportunities; a day without tarnish.
Silver platters can be heirlooms or given to commemorate a special occasion. Some days are more memorable than others (good and bad), but each day has its purpose, whether to celebrate, learn, mourn, teach, or encourage. We are passing our days and “platters” to the next generation, our children and grandchildren, friends, and those who follow us. We want to be shining examples and leave a legacy of hope and values worthy to be cherished like precious heirlooms.
In conclusion, my challenge to myself and to you is..........

Dear friends and family of GFD,
Happy Spring! In these seasons of spring and summer, I am reminded of a proper perspective to life, new beginnings, renewed hope, and service to others. The recent events around the world call for compassion and increased awareness to the needs of others. We are challenged to step up and contribute to the common good, no matter how small or great our actions may seem. Each step we take makes a difference for us and those we care about and even for those we do not know.
One of my favorite poems is.......

The GFD ((Smile Lines))
December 2010
A Christmas Message from Dr. Fox -
Dear friends and family of GFD,
In this season an in all seasons, we are filled with gratitude for your presence, the trust you place in us, and the relationships we share with each of you. With a New Year approaching, a time of reflection of the past and hopeful expectation for 2011 is appropriate.
Life is not without joys and challenges in health and families, but also presents opportunities for fresh starts and new beginnings. This past year we too have experienced joys and challenges at GFD and personally for me as well. One of the best things we can do for ourselves and others is to live our lives with gratitude, no matter what situation presents itself..............

Holiday 2009

Hi Everyone,
We are passing the celebration of Veterans’ Day and thanking all that have secured and protected our freedoms. We are racing toward Thanksgiving, starting to think about Christmas or other religious celebrations and wondering where the last year went as we approach 2010. Without question 2009 has seen challenges that have tested our metal. However, I hope that through all the distractions we do not forget the true meanings of this Holiday season.

Wow! This is our 25thyear of serving patients. In that time, our constant quest for excellence has ranked GFD in the top 5 in the country for non-surgical treatment of gum disease. It has ranked us in the top 2% of the dentists in the U.S.A. for the use of hard and soft tissue lasers resulting in offering services to this region that others can’t, and most notably, in a more comfortable setting. It also allows us to offer cancer patients...........

Hi Everyone—Blessed Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas
Many of us are feeling the effects of the mostly politically motivated bad news hoisted upon us by a media that is doing its best to create fear and convince us that the sky is falling. I know personally that my attitude makes a big difference in what I feel and how I react. I keep reflecting on a phrase that well known speaker John Maxwell uses which says....

Hello Everyone,
It is a wonderful time of year as we have just finished celebrating and honoring two important holidays and are transitioning from winter to summer. I hope that you were all able to reflect and celebrate the freedoms that those major holidays represent: Easter where one gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we could all be freed from our own personal evil and darkness allowing us to freely live and give; and Memorial day where we honor those that have feely given to protect those freedoms which we so greatly enjoy through their great sacrifice.
I would also ask everyone to give special encouragement and support to those and their families who are serving in Iraq

Hi Everyone,
The summer blew by us and now the holiday season is flying upon us. Soccer, football, and volleyball are over and basketball and wrestling are starting. For my family of four young kids, school activities really keep us hopping. Now add the holiday season and it sometimes seems we are moving at warp speed. Often times I have to stop to make sure I take time to be truly appreciative of all the blessings I have and contemplate the true meaning of these Holidays. Please join me in being thankful for all we have and the wonderful freedoms this country provides by the many sacrifices of others.

Hi Everyone,
The summer is flying by but I hope that you have taken a moment to take a deep breath and enjoy the season and the people that are closest to you. I know that sometimes we think that things will stay the same forever only to have things change and we lose the opportunity forever.
A good example of that was......
