Wow! This is our 25thyear of serving patients. In that time, our constant quest for excellence has ranked GFD in the top 5 in the country for non-surgical treatment of gum disease. It has ranked us in the top 2% of the dentists in the U.S.A. for the use of hard and soft tissue lasers resulting in offering services to this region that others can’t, and most notably, in a more comfortable setting. It also allows us to offer cancer patients that have suffered oral sores from the effects of chemo and radiation free laser treatments that give almost immediate pain relief. We’ve become a leading cosmetic dental group and one of the top Lumineer dental offices in Wisconsin with referrals from around the state. We are leaders in the use of advanced technology so our patients are better informed and have more options available to them. We actively test new dental product claims to protect patients from false advertising. We continue to offer more services like Invisalign braces to our patients. We have patients that come to us from around the world and the United States. But this means nothing unless you have a friendly, expert team that cares deeply about their patients and work. GFD’s greatest success in this last 25 years is the development of the great and experienced staff that serves you. Indeed, in these past years we have seen great changeand we’re committed to making the next 25 years even better.

As GFD moves forward into the future, our past has been a major influencer of our core principles. President Woodrow Wilson reminded me of that fact with his quote, “A nation which does not remember what it was yesterday, does not know what it is today nor what it is trying to do.” No matter what your current opinion, it’s interesting to see during the Celebration of Independence what our founders thought and how they put together the longest contemporary government system in the world. In our founders’ writings we find:
 
  • 1776, 56 men pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor in declaring their independence… “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.
  • Of these founders, 52 claimed to be Christians.
  • A 10 year University of Houston study, searching 15,000 writings of our founders’ concluded that the Bible was quoted directly or indirectly 94% of the time as justification for placing key principles into the constitution.  
  • James Madison, architect of the Constitution said, “We have staked the whole future of American civilization not upon the power of the government, far from it. We have staked the future of all our political institutions upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.”
  • Founder and President John Quincy Adams said, “The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: that it connected in one in-dissolvable bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”
  • Founder Noah Webster, the author of Webster’s Dictionary and the shaper of our education said, “Every civil government is based on some religion or philosophy of life. Education will propagate the religion of the nation. In America, the foundational religion was Christianity…Our liberty, growth and prosperity is the result of a biblical philosophy of life. Our continued freedom and success is dependent upon educating our youth in the principles of the Christian religion.”
  • Founder Benjamin Franklin said, “Whoever will introduce into the public affairs the principles of Christianity will change the face of the world.”
  • George Washington, the Father of our country said, “Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles.”
  • Founder and President John Adams said, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passion unbridled by morality and religion…. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people… It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
   
Whether you agree with our founders or not, their wisdom was profound: They understood the true nature of mankind; the need for the separation of powers for accountability; the need for morality for the rule of law to work; the need for people to be motivated to abide by those laws; and that individual freedom and independence was the most effective way to pursue happiness. Those are things none of us can disagree with. So, with great appreciation for the work of our founders, I hope you’ll join me in respecting and thanking all those serving our country and defending our individual freedom and independence wherever they are called. Happy Independence!!!

Events

As community service projects our dental teamhas been visiting the youngest members of our society at their daycares. They really like their goody bags and their questions always keep us on our toes. If you have a child in daycare, please let us know the daycare’s name. We will contact them to schedule a fun and educational activity.
 
New Products
          
A new toothpaste called Clinpro 5000 combines prescription fluoride with Tri-Calcium Phosphate (TCP). The toothpaste has 4 times the fluoride strength of over-the-counter toothpaste and TCP helps re-mineralizes soft, damaged teeth caused by the bacteria that create cavities. Varnish XT is an extended contact, light cured varnish that helps desensitize teeth that are extremely sensitive to temperature changes or sweets (we don’t want anybody avoiding chocolate). Varnish XT delivers fluoride and calcium phosphate for up to 6 months in its task of desensitizing and re-mineralizing your teeth. This is another example of the advanced treatments that GFD makes available to you.
           
Our team tested Sonicare’s power toothbrush called FlexCare. It is the first Sonicare brush that has met GFD standards and has been clinically proven to remove more plaque than a manual brush. For those that like a lot of electronic features and feel comfortable with a vibrating style of brush, we now offer this brush along with our professional Rotadent toothbrush. It is competitively priced and a GFD hygienist will show you how to use it.
 
New System
      
ConsultPro has been added to all of our treatment rooms and an abbreviated version to our website. This allows you to see how a procedure is done so that you can make an informed decision as to what’s best for you. We believe the higher your dental IQ, the more you’ll appreciate the quality and excellence of our service.
 
New Person
            
Join us in welcoming Patty Waite to our dental assisting team. She replaces Julie who has elected to be a stay-at-home mom. Patty has excellent skills and brings a maturity that reflects our GFD excellence.
 
Continuing Ed
          
At GFD we never stop learning. Topics we’ve been following are implants and their restorations; dentistry’s roll in treating sleep apnea; non-surgical treatments of periodontal disease; review of a number of new products, materials and processes; and even a class called “Loving Dentistry.” Yes, we are dedicated to the challenge of making your trip to GFD one of the top ten most favorite and easiest things for you to do (now that is a lofty goal).
 
Final word
            
A story about a small boy and the great Polish Pianist, Ignacy Jan Paderewski that was inspired by a WWII poster and goes as follows: “As a mother was returning from the restroom, the house lights started to dim, the concert was about to begin, and as she was approaching her seat, she discovered, that her little boy was missing. Suddenly, the curtains parted and spotlights focused on the impressive Steinway piano on stage and much to her horror, the mother saw her little boy sitting at the keyboard, innocently picking out ‘Chop Sticks’. The crowd didn’t hesitate in vocalizing its dismay yelling at the little boy to get off the stage and threatening him if he didn’t.
 
Seeing how the situation was getting out of hand, the great piano master made his entrance, quickly moved to the piano, and whispered in the boy's ear, ‘Don't stop, keep playing… don't stop, keep playing.’ Then, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in a beautiful bass part. Soon his right arm reached around to the other side of the child, and he added a running obbligato. Together, the master and the young novice transformed what could have been a frightening situation for the boy into a wonderfully exhilarating experience. The audience was so mesmerized they couldn't recall what else the great master played that night-only the classic, ‘Chop Sticks’.”

In these challenging times there are many opportunities to be afraid; to give-up; to question why; to claim that we are victims; complain life is not fair; but more importantly feel that no matter what we do it will not make a difference. At those times the Master whispers in our ear “don’t stop, keep playing…don’t stop, keep playing”.
 
And when we think our feeble efforts are truly inadequate, the Master wraps his arms around us and turns our efforts into beautiful music that impacts those around us and influences future generations. May our freedom ring and independence sing; our courage roar and attitudes soar; and inspired from above to show continuous love. Don’t stop, keep playing! Be encouraged and hope to see you soon.
