Dear friends and family of GFD,

Happy Spring! In these seasons of spring and summer, I am reminded of a proper perspective to life, new beginnings, renewed hope, and service to others. The recent events around the world call for compassion and increased awareness to the needs of others. We are challenged to step up and contribute to the common good, no matter how small or great our actions may seem. Each step we take makes a difference for us and those we care about and even for those we do not know.

One of my favorite poems is the “Anyway” poem, widely known and engraved on the wall of Mother Teresa’s home for children in Calcutta. Original by Kent Keith.

Anyway (revised version)

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;

Give the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis it is between you and God.

It was never between you and them anyway.

We all do well to remind ourselves that we are all here to work together and help each other get through each day, sharing joys and sorrows. I am privileged to have a staff that believes in service to others and I value each of them, and each of you, as family. It is an honor that you have chosen us for your dental care. We will do our best to serve you and be there to meet your needs.

A RECIPE FROM THE GFD COLLECTION

Greek Tortellini Salad –

2 – 9oz. pkg. cheese tortellini (cooked & drained)

2 - Red or green sweet peppers (cut in thin strips)

1 – Small red onion (thinly sliced)

¼ c. sliced ripe olives

½ c. white cinegar

½ c. olive oil

3 T. lemon juice

3 T fresh mint

2 T. dry sherry

1 ½ tsp. seasoned salt

1 tsp. garlic powder

¼ tsp. crushed red pepper

½ c. crumbled feta cheese

In a large bowl combine tortellini, peppers, onion & olives.

For dressing – combine vinegar, oil, mint, lemon juice, sherry, seasoned salt, garlic powder, & red pepper. Pour over salad, cover, and chill for 4 to 24 hours. Stir in feta cheese.
