A Defense in the Battle with Dry Mouth
By Melinda Winter, RDH at Gentle Family Dentistry

Dry mouth can be a problem for many patients. The good news is that there are products available that can help. Biotene® products can soothe, lubricate, kill germs and fight bad breath.

Another name for dry mouth is Xerostomia. Xertostomia can be caused by medications, radiation therapies, mouth breathing, diabetes, stress and depression to name a few. Without enough saliva the teeth are more prone to cavities and gum disease. Biotene® mouthwash is alcohol free, antibacterial and it soothes and refreshes the mouth. Besides containing 3 natural antibacterial enzymes which boosts and restores the defense system found in your saliva, Biotene® also contains Xylitol.

Xylitol is a natural sweetener that can be found in berries, fruits and mushrooms. A lot of sugarless chewing gum also contains Xylitol and is beneficial in reducing cavities.

Biotene® mouthwash should be used in conjunction with Biotene® toothpaste to maintain its effectiveness. Other Biotene® products are available including: Oral Balance Moisturizing Gel and Liquid.

These Biotene® products are available at Gentle Family Dentistry and through our online Website Store. Ask your dental hygienist to try a sample of Biotene® mouthwash at your next appointment.
