Laser Technology
We’re happy to be one of the few dentists in the Milwaukee area to offer lasers in our treatment of patients. We have a full compliment of lasers to treat both hard tissue, such as removing decay from teeth and preparing them for restoration, and soft tissue to help aid in periodontal disease treatment and prepare tissue around a tooth for crown placement. Often being able to treat patients without the use of anesthetic is an added bonus to having laser technology in our office.
Air Abrasion
Removing surface decay from teeth can be done without drilling. Our air abrasion units use small abrasive particles driven by air pressure to remove the decay often without anesthetic. A filling is then placed in the tooth. Air abrasion can also be used to remove some stains or discolorations from the teeth.
Bridges and Partials
When restoring areas in your mouth where teeth are missing, Gentle Family Dentistry can do so with either a removable partial denture or a bridge that is cemented in place. Depending on the configuration of your remaining teeth, our doctor's will determine the restorative technique that is best for you.
Dental Imaging and Cosmetic Dentistry
With the help of our Image-FX imaging system we are able to show a patient what their completed cosmetic dentistry will look like before we start. Whether its whitening your smile, closing the space between your teeth or bridging a gap from a missing tooth Gentle Family Dentistry can do it all.
Diagnostic tools (laser, intraoral cameras, low radiation x-rays)
Gentle Family Dentistry uses many modern technological tools to help diagnose a variety of dental problems. Our laser caries detection system, the Diagnodent, helps diagnose cavities before they are visible to the eye.
Our use of intraoral cameras enables patients to see the problems the doctor sees. Cracks that are difficult to see can many times be detected in the magnified image from the camera.
Extractions
Teeth that require extraction can be removed painlessly here at Gentle Family Dentistry under local anesthetic. Most fully erupted teeth can be removed by our doctors, however, if a referral is necessary we have several specialists in whom we have great confidence.
Fillings
When decay does occur Gentle Family Dentistry can offer you the option of either the traditional 'silver' restoration or the tooth colored resin restoration. We now have the technology to put resin restorations in molars. Not only are these restorations more attractive but they are also more structurally sound due to the fact that they bond directly to the natural tooth structure.
Gingivitis, Perio and Soft Tissue Disease
Gingivitis and periodontal disease has been shown to cause more problems than bleeding gums and bad breath. Heart disease and low birth weight babies are only a few of the medical conditions associated with periodontal disease. The team of hygienists at Gentle Family Dentistry have extensive training in soft tissue management programs. These non-surgical treatment options have been very successful in treating gingivitis and periodontal disease with the patient taking an active role in their own treatment.
Home Care Products and Toothbrushes
Gentle Family Dentistry offers a wide variety of products to help our patients and website visitors. The Rotadent Toothbrush has been proven in studies to out perform any of the motorized toothbrushes on the market. The replacement heads are also available for purchase in our office.
Our complete line of home care products range form rinses and gels that battle dry mouth, to Water Pik appliances, to a complete line of products designed to get rid of bad breath not just cover it up.

Implants
Today's technology now allows for areas where teeth are missing to be replaced by dental implants. Gentle Family Dentistry doctors work closely with one of our preferred specialists to determine who is a good candidate for implants. The specialist will place a small metal rod below the gum line. Over time the rod will fuse with the bone and serve as the base for specially designed crowns or bridgework.
Initial Exam
All new patients who visit Gentle Family Dentistry receive a complete oral exam by one of our doctors. The doctor will use full mouth x-rays, perio charting and a visual exam to evaluate the health of every patients mouth. A complete oral cancer screening will be done to check for any lesions, swelling, or color changes which may indicate a problem area.
Inlays, Onlays and Crowns
If an inlay, onlay or crown is needed to restore your tooth properly Gentle Family Dentistry has highly trained doctors who can do the preparations necessary for our lab to process the restorative prosthetic. Porcelain coverings will be matched with the shade of your existing teeth. In addition to the appointment needed to prepare the tooth a second appointment will be needed to cement the crown, inlay or onlay in place.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas as it's often called, can be used for our patients who are a bit more apprehensive. This patient friendly gas is used together with traditional anesthetic by inhaling it through a small mask placed over the nose. You are not put to sleep, simply made to feel a bit more relaxed.
Periodic Exam
One key to good oral health is regular dental exams. When our patients return for their periodic cleanings they also receive a thorough exam of their teeth, bone levels and soft tissues.
We use only modern, low dosage x-ray units and limit x-rays taken to only those that are necessary.
Panoramic X-ray
Our panoramic x-ray unit makes it possible for Gentle Family Dentistry to take an x-ray of your entire mouth in one large film. These panoramic films are extremely useful when evaluating a patient's wisdom teeth or their bone structure and tooth location for possible orthodontic treatment.
Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are an excellent way to improve the appearance of your front teeth. In this process the tooth is prepared by the dentist and an impression is taken for our lab to process a porcelain facing which is cemented to your tooth at a second appointment.
Root Canals
Occasionally the nerve will die inside your tooth causing an infection and requiring the tooth to have a root canal. During a root canal the doctor will remove the nerve from the tooth and seal the canals thus eliminating the pain causing infection. Because a root canal often causes the tooth to become more brittle a crown is usually recommended as a permanent restoration.
Snoring Prevention Devices, Mouth Guards and Sports Guards
Often simply by taking an impression of your mouth Gentle Family Dentistry can formulate a device to aid you in a variety of situations. The Silent Night Guard can help relieve an evening of snoring. A Habit Therapy Appliance can prevent the wear and tear that grinding causes and the importance of wearing a mouth guard when participating in sports is immeasurable. The impressions taken in our office are sent to the lab and an appliance is specially made for your particular needs.
Teeth Whitening
At Gentle Family Dentistry we offer three different methods of whitening your teeth:
- Professional Strength Crest White Strips are thin strips which are applied by the patient to their upper and lower teeth for ½ hour, two times a day. The professional kit contains a 3 week supply of strips, a Crest toothbrush and a tube of Crest toothpaste.
- Custom made home bleaching trays are another option for whitening your teeth. Our staff will take impressions of your teeth from which they will make the trays. You will be given detailed instructions on how to dispense the whitening gel, how long and how often to wear your trays, the percentage of gel that is right for you and proper care of your trays. The trays may be stored in the case provided and for your future whitening needs you can return to our office to purchase additional gel.
- We also offer in-office whitening with which you will see immediate results. On a tooth by tooth basis our doctors will apply a whitening material which will be activated by a high intensity light. The patient should notice a 1 to 2 shade lighter difference by the time they leave the office.
Ultrasonic Cleaning and Tooth Polishing
Hand scaling is only one of the options used by our hygienists to provide a thorough cleaning and soft tissue treatment to our patients. Gentle Family Dentistry uses ultrasonic cleaning units to aid in the cleaning process. Using our piezo scalers and cavitrons in conjunction with hand scaling, they can remove the hard deposits above and below the gum line in a more efficient manner. Using the piezo scaler for irrigating these areas with a medicated mouth rinse is very beneficial in treating disease. The use of the prophy jet will remove stubborn stains that regular polishing may not be able to remove.
